Storytellers Family Night With Author Joe Hayes
The students, parents, and staff of Constance Hulbert Elementary wish to extend their gratitude to author and storyteller Mr. Joe Hayes. Mr. Hayes spent his day at Constance Hulbert sharing his stories and experiences with all of the Hulbert Hawks. His techniques captivated his audience. After school hours, the boys and girls of the 21st Century Program were provided the opportunity to have Mr. Hayes host a Storytellers Family Night. Parents and grandparents gathered with their children to behold the wonderful art of storytelling. Participants were able to share their family's story and artistic ability. Each family worked collectively to create a patch that represents them. Each piece collected is being made into a family quilt that will be proudly displayed in the campus. At the conclusion of the night Mr. Hayes took the time to look over and autograph a game board designed by a group of fifth grade students. Their game was based upon one of his stories and designed to retell the elements when it is played. He encouraged them to create stories and share them in every way they can. The Constance Hulbert family was truly inspired by the magic of storytelling.
Destination ImagiNation Winners
The Hawks
_
In their first time ever to compete in the district's
Destination ImagiNation event, a team of seven students from Constance Hulbert
Elementary were awarded 3rd place in the competition. What is impressive is to
learn that these boys and girls had a mere 6 hours of practice time to prepare
for the event. Typically, groups will assemble and rehearse months in advance
for such a competition. The boys and girls of the 21st Century After School
Program learned that they were granted the opportunity to compete just five
days before the event was held. The dedication, creativity, and collaboration
of these students is nothing short of amazing. This truly serves to show us
that our students can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
