MDFS Career Day 2013“I can succeed, I will succeed…” This was the message delivered to the participants of the Mother-Daughter/Father-Son Program at UTEP’s Career Day on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Presenters and keynote speaker Mrs. Rosa Guerrero treated students and their parents to a day of career exploration, motivation, and heartfelt stories of their determination to succeed. From engineers to translators these families learned about the skills necessary for each career path, and the desire needed to see them through. Constance Hulbert’s new Assistant Principal Mrs. Teresa Heimer had the honor to present her story. She shared a bilingual book she composed titled “My Mother, Mi Mama.” In it she described the adversity she overcame by being guided by her mother’s message to be the best at what you do and always do things with pride. At the conclusion of her presentation each of the boys and girls in the audience went to embrace her. One student noted, “She was sad knowing what she went through, but is happy now knowing that she is happy.” Thank you to our parents and presenters for taking the time to reach out and inspire our future leaders. The wisdom that you have has no value if you don’t share it.
